Basic Web Design Tips

Whether you’re creating a personal website or building a business website, here are a few
helpful tips that are simply universal.

   1. Choose one of the Free Flash template that is best for you.
We’ve separated the different templates into categories to make it easier for you to find something that works with your needs. Choose the appropriate category and then browse the templates to choose the one closest to your tastes and style choices.

   2. Make Your Website Idiot Proof.
Expect your visitors to have zero knowledge in browsing the web and design your template accordingly. Make the navigation clear and simple. Don’t leave pages orphaned, that’s just sad.

   3. Make it Easy for People to Contact You.
How often have you come across a really interesting website and wanted to contact the creator or owner but alas, there were no contact details to be found? Make it easy for people to contact you. Add more than one contact form if necessary, particularly if the site is large. Perhaps it’s also a good idea to add a small, unobtrusive footer with your email or phone number. You can also list any social networks you are a part of, such as facebook and/or twitter.

   4. State Your Name. Don’t forget the title of your website.
If this is a personal website it should be your name and if it’s a business website, add your business’s name  and logo in a clear position on every page.

   5. Make the Website Agenda Clear. It’s all about the five “W’s”. Why, what, where, when and who.
You’ve stated your name; you’ve added the contact details, now you need to be clear about the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ of your website. For example, if you’re an artist and you are building an artist’s website, it should be clear that the ‘what’ is ‘paintings’ or ‘selling paintings’ and the ‘why’ is ‘because you love modern art’ or because ‘the paintings are beautiful’. This is just an example, I’m sure you have a better idea.

   6. Don’t forget a call for action.
If you’re creating a musician page, make sure you make the invitation to listen and purchase your music clear and demanding. If you’re a business website, this is true tenfold.

   7. Don’t leave unfinished ends. Make sure you pay attention to the details and the finish.
If you leave uneven borders for example, people will notice it and it will ruin the impression you’re trying to make. Make sure someone else proof reads your texts before you publish to avoid silly annoying typos.

   8. Stay Visual.
Don’t forget that the public today is MTV and commercial trained. People don’t read as much as they used to and they definitely don’t like to read online. Make your website visually attractive. Using images also helps ease the overload of texts.
